How mold risk adds up

Moisture is the whole story

Mold spores are everywhere; they only grow where something stays wet. The EPA notes that materials wet for more than 24 to 48 hours can start to grow mold, so the timing of a water event matters as much as its size.

Humid summers raise the baseline

How long after a leak can mold start?

Growth can begin within 24 to 48 hours on materials that stay wet, such as drywall, carpet pad and wood framing. Drying that finishes inside that window is why a fast response matters.

Is a musty smell always mold?

Not always, but it is the most common sign of hidden growth or persistent damp. An inspection with a moisture meter finds where the moisture is.

Does a dry climate mean no mold risk?

No. Indoor water events, plumbing leaks and condensation grow mold in any climate. A dry climate lowers the baseline; it does not remove the risk after a leak.

Can mold make you sick?

Should I test the air for mold?
